Muscle scraping in Charlotte. For the tissue that won't release.
IASTM — instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization. The technique behind the tool.
What it actually does
Instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM) uses a specially designed metal or ceramic tool to break up scar tissue and fascial adhesion. The scraping motion creates microtrauma in the targeted tissue, which signals the body to increase blood flow, collagen remodeling, and tissue repair. It's not painful for most patients — it feels like a firm, focused massage.
Dr. Britt's take / when I use it
Achilles tendon thickening in runners: three sessions, 15 minutes each, combined with eccentric loading exercises.
Plantar fasciitis that hasn't responded to stretching: IASTM at the fascial insertion point, two to three visits.
Post-surgical scar tissue in the shoulder: careful IASTM on the adhesion, combined with joint mobilization.
What to expect
Treatment takes 5–10 minutes on the targeted area. You may see mild redness or petechiae (tiny red dots) on the skin afterward — this is normal and fades in 24–48 hours. Most patients feel improvement within 2–3 sessions.
Pricing: Muscle scraping is included in the $75 adjustment + bodywork visit.
